After church, today, some of my friends on the worship team were talking about a song we have begun singing at worship. At first, the song feels a little awkward; after one sings it a few times, one will, without realizing it, stop and seriously think about the words. The melody is simply set up that way. It’s beautiful. It’s called “How He Loves,” sung by Kim Walker.
There’s a particular part to the song that I hadn’t heard before, since the verse has a sort of humorous simile within it. I think they’ll actually add this verse in service eventually. But the verse goes like this:
So we are His portion and He is our prize,
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes
If grace is an ocean we’re all sinking
So heaven meets earth like a sloppy wet kiss and my heart turns violently inside of my chest
I don’t have time to maintain these regrets when I think about the way He loves us…
This verse… I heard it for the first time, today. As I listened to these words and made them my own, I felt as though God had reached down to the very pit of my soul and filtered out the sludge that has settled there. Profound. Think about it: “I don’t have time to maintain these regrets when I think about the way He loves us.” So very true.
You must somehow get hold of this song. You can find tabs and lyrics here; see it on YouTube here.
