26/52: Water

Jessica sent me this fabulous article explaining how to take pictures of a drop of water from a faucet.  This is the most challenging task I’ve taken on for Project 52.  I snapped pictures for a half hour or more and referred to my camera books and the article a few times before even capturing this.  Let me save you the trouble: Don’t forget to use flash! :)

After much work, this is what I’ve come up with for last week’s the water theme:

I took at least 300 pictures to get this one.  Seth actually got one on his fourth try, but that’s when I realized that I didn’t have the manual focus just right.  After an adjust, we both got a few good shots in.  I believe this is my best shot.

Stay tuned for week 27’s post.  I’m a tad behind.  Also, folks, I’m half way through this challenge!  Wahoo!

Joyfully,

Playing with Edits

I have downloaded quite a few actions.  Lots and lots.  The benefits I’ve found in actions so far include: 1) Seeing ways edits happen and learning how to copy them and 2) getting edits completed quickly and effectively.

Here’s what I’ve done with a few images from yesterday’s post.  The before images are the top of each pair and the after/edit images are on the bottom:

What I want to be sure of is that I don’t over-edit pictures.  In your opinion, do the edits still look realistic?  Would you frame them on your wall?  How much would you pay for a print?  Explain.

And, yes, I am a teacher.  So I do expect an essay in MLA format attached to your comments.

As always, do your best.

Your favorite teacher,

SOOC: Thrilled!

So, you read the post rejoicing in the lens my mother send me out of the blue, right?

Well, since The Hunk and I visited his parents, I got plenty of time to practice using the lens on scenery with great depth of field.  This lens has some awesome zoom capabilities.  Check out these SOOC (straight out of the camera) pictures nature allowed me to capture today:

I am absolutely in love with this lens.  It is awesome.  I am impressed that I can get far away, focus so specifically (which definitely challenges my patience and skill) and catch an image with such crispness.

I’m looking forward to more fun with this lens.

With joy,

25/52: Fantasy

I have the most scandalous fantasy.

No, not really.  But I do find myself constantly fantasizing about living in the most expensive houses in our areas.  Every Tuesday, when I head to Bible study, I pass beautiful homes in the most fabulously cute neighborhood I’ve seen since moving to Columbus.

And in the last year, there have been people working on the inside and outside of a specific old house down the road.  I think it’s technically being flipped, but I wouldn’t dare part with it.

And, in a perfect fantasy, I live there.  And cook in one of its two kitchens.  And take turns using its six or so bathrooms.  And slide across the smooth wood floors in my socks with my perfectly mannered children.  My husband comes home from a fantastically easy day at work to a meal made by our fantastically skilled chef, who lives in the guest quarters and parks in the farthest away of the three attached garages.  And the landscapers come every day to keep my grass from growing the slightest bit too much.  And there’s room for everything.  And my kids’ friends want nothing more than to come to our house because it is so warm, welcoming, and huge.  No doubt they’d never leave without experiencing the love of God.  It’s the perfect fantasy.

Wait, did I just say that I cook AND have a hired chef?  I should think through this more thoroughly.

Did I mention it is $1.8 million?  Yeah, I looked it up online; that’s how I know about the excessive bathrooms and attached nanny quarters.  And three garages.  And spacious rooms.  Man, my Christmas tree would look fantastic in that place.

Never gonna happen.

But I snapped a fantastical picture of it, today.

I know I’d look fantastic driving up into this rounded drive way (have I ever mentioned that this type of driveway is my ideal driveway!? Cuz it is!) in my Lexus or Saab.

Only dreaming,

Jay.Krys.Em+Jael

I spent about five hours editing pictures today.  Not bad, I’d say, especially considering how many I edited.  All told, I have 81 pictures for them.

Readers, meet, if you haven’t already, the gang: Jason, Emily, Krystie and, dancing around in Krys’s belly, Jael.

This took some finangaling.  How the heck is that spelled?

This was at the couple’s request.  It turned out well, although I wish I could/would have gotten the body in full silhouette.  And, yes, the sun flare is natural.

Love this shot.  Jason was totally cooperative and even asked if his hands looked enough like a heart.  What a precious man!

What a fabulously loving family!

We made it back to the house for barebelly pictures.  This one has some texture to it.  I like the artsy side of it.  Also, please note: The “E” was sideways a bit until Jael kicked it.  She is a dancer, for sure!  Never having been pregnant myself, I almost peed my pants it was so funny!

I copied this idea from a friend’s maternity session shots.  This is a preciously precious moment.

Daddy loves the belly.

Can I say precious again?  What a fabulous couple!

Jason is a crazy-awesome daddy.

My reflections:

  • Photo editing cures so many of my snapping shortcomings.  Thank goodness for Photoshop Elements!
  • Next time: I should bring a written list, index-card style, of ideas so I don’t forget things, like putting a Bible in some pictures.

Overall, I’m pleased!  This was more work than I thought, but the results are so worth it.  For sure.

Surely,
