Natural: 1/52 (Let’s Do 52)

A day late, but I took this picture yesterday.  I have never eaten sushi, but I can’t fathom the idea of eating raw fish.  Raw fish.  Very natural.

Do you like sushi?  If you were recommending a starter sushi, what would it be?  I need to prepare for my trip to Japan this summer.

Naturally,

Jon.Jess |Engaged

Winter break has been simply splendid for me.  You should be jealous, as I have over three weeks of break compared to the usual two that teachers get.  Conveniently, my family went to Edisto Island, South Carolina for about a week.  It was a great time.  We laughed until our slides almost split open and–most importantly–I was able to wear flip-flops and a short sleeve shirt almost the entire time.  In fact, the day we came back, we left at 4am and I was warm in my flip-flops and tee and came home to require at least a hoodie and real shoes.  Sad times.

We went with my immediate family and my mom’s oldest brother and his family.  He has three daughters and my parents have three daughters; we always vacationed together growing up.

At any rate, while we were gone, my middle cousin got engaged.  Since we were at the beach, I pretty much required them to have engagement pictures taken.  Here are some of the results; you can find more of them  on the Rejoicing Rebecca facebook.

I’m wonderstruck that I had an opportunity to take engagement shots at the beach during sunset.  I’m from the midwest!  This is just amazing to me.  Thanks, Jon and Jess, for the wonderful experience!  I hope you enjoy your images.

Love one another,

New Year = Site Updates

If you didn’t click on a direct link to this post, you probably noticed some changes in the site.

Firstly, you’ll notice a new and updated blog header image.  As is now my tradition, the background image comes from the travels and snapping of the year before.

I’ve also updated the header image on my 411 page to reflect recent snapshots.

The biggest change, and one that I’m concerned about: You’ll notice that the website now defaults to what we call a “static” page.  The page doesn’t change and doesn’t include blog posts.  On the contrary, the page has a slide show of my photography portfolio and a form for users to find my information.  If visitors want to read blog posts, they’ll now have to click on the categories in the menu to read.  My goal is to focus more on photography–and for site visitors to know that, while I focus on photography more, I will still blog about my life on the side.  Obviously, this is an experiment.

I’m looking forward to see what 2012 brings.  I’m hoping the year brings progress toward more photography business and more traveling with Nikki (the Nikon).

Joyfully,

Project 52: Year in Review

A year ago, my friend Jessica challenged me to complete the Project 52.  I had never really heard of photography projects before.  While I didn’t complete the project perfectly, I did take a picture for every week’s theme.  I’ve compiled them in video form.  Check it out. :)

What shall I do for 2012?  I’m not completely, officially for certain, but I think I’m going to do this one: Let’s Do 52!  I like that this theme has two options each week.  Or do I?  I may have trouble choosing each week, knowing how I roll.  But this will be fun!

Join me, won’t you?  I’ll be posting on my blog and, occasionally, on the LD52 facebook page.

There’s safety in numbers.  Let me know if you’re in.

Hopeful,

52/52: Fun

On the morning after Christmas, my parents, babysis, Hunk, and I loaded up and headed to Edisto Island, South Carolina.  It was a splendid time.  Sometimes, the most amazing times can be had when sitting around the table chatting.  I caught this gem, the last image of the year, during such an event.

Readers, meet Ben.  You might recognize him (except his face is covered) from In Love.  Ben is my cousin’s husband.  And he almost split is side laughing that night.

I hope all of your family times are as side-splitting hilarious as this night was.  One of the best in the books.

This, of course, concludes my 2011 photography project: Project 52.  I will be letting you know what, if any, projects will take place during 2012.  I look forward to more growth and more excitement through the year.

With love and laughter,

51/52: Three

Rev Hunk and I are on vacation with some of my extended family.  We’re having a fabulous time.  There will be many many more pictures to come, but I wanted to check in quickly and post my pic for week 51.  I’m almost done!

It’s warm here compared to back home.  I could live here.

Warmly,
