Today is day 17 of the #iheartBible challenge that I’m hosting.  If you have joined up, hooray! I’m glad you’re here.  If you want to join up, then awesomesauce!  Check out the challenge post for details and join in on the linky so we can all read one another’s posts during the challenge.  I love Jesus and blogging, so I’m glad to see people joining in.  We’d love to have you join, too.  It’s never too late!

Today’s verse is Hebrews 11.1.  Read it below in its context (Why do I care about context?):

1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2 For by it the people of old received their commendation. 3 By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.

Wow, I’ve never looked at the context of this verse before.  Have you?  I mean, the writer is actually taking about faith in the context of commendation and creation.

Lately, creation has peeked again as a hot topic.  Personally, I know who created the world.  The process He used? No clue.  We get the general gist of how He created the world, but, the rest? We must have faith.  I have no problem with that.  If you do, this is not the place to explore.  Faith.  I have faith that Jesus created the world.  That’s enough for me.

I wonder, though, if a person who is not “of old” can also be commended for their faith.  Scripture isn’t being written anymore, so commendation would look different.  This makes me think of Billy Graham.  He is near the end of his life.  And what a life, right? He has shared the gospel with more people than anyone else in modern history.  At his end, no doubt people will rave about his faith in Christ.  But his faith has been very public; what about our faith? Us every-day, not well-known people? I believe our faith can cause us to be commended in the eyes of Christ.

I hope to live a faith that does just that.

Faithfully,
