Needtobreathe is simply an amazing band. Their music expresses honesty. And their sound… like balm on my broken lips.
One song, “Washed by the Water” from their album, The Heat, lines up with my background. I remember the first time I heard this song. I just stopped in my car and listened. And then listened again. Lucky for me, it was on CD. Check out some of the lyrics below, and hear the song here.
Daddy was a preacher
She was his wife
Just tryin to make the world a little better
You know, shine a light
People started talking
Trying to hear their own voice
Those people tried to accuse my father
Said he made the wrong choice
Though it might be painful
You know that time will always tell…
Oh, and the chorus. The chorus.
Even when the rain falls
Even when the flood starts rising
Even when the storm comes
I am washed by the water
Oh, wait, the bridge! The bridge…
Even if the Earth crumbles under my feet
Even if the ones I love turn around and crucify me
I won’t never ever let you down
I won’t fall
I won’t fall
I won’t fall as long as you’re around me
As much as I generally despise an organ, the organ is really an awesome musical addition to this song.
On Thursday, when I was out and about, a sudden and summer-like downpour occurred. Of course, you know, since I am shopping so often. Anyway, this wonderful image of this story presented itself before me and I captured it using my phone’s camera. Check it:
Washed. By the water. Think about it. Think about how the water washes things clean. After a sudden summer-like downpour, everything is refreshed. New. Replenished.
And wet.
Aside from being wet, the earth is refreshed by the gift from above.
I’m not sure if you have been following me, but this blog post tells about my final cleansing after many, many years of pleading for a good cleansing.
Washed in the water. Hate turns to love.
